Velvet Millar is an emerging artist in the fields of digital media, print and photography. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from Edith Cowan University, Mount Lawley, Western Australia. Upon graduation, The School of Communications and Art awarded Velvet The Artsource Professional Practice Award, The Open Byte Printmaking Studio Residency award and was nominated by the faculty for inclusion in a national showcase of graduate work.

Since then, images from Velvet’s portfolio were selected to represent Western Australian Music in the WAMI ‘Kiss My Camera’ Showcase. She was awarded the 2008 IRIS Award in the Student Category for Portraiture Photography, and due to the exposure afforded by this accolade, was subsequently approached by New York-based Actress/Writer/Director Eva Van Dok to include Velvet’s IRIS Award winning image into Van Dok’s production of Mimi Wyche’s EATEN ALIVE.

Velvet’s first solo exhibition opened at ‘Breathing Space’ in Edith Cowan University Library in October, 2009. The exhibition, a collection of original digital media prints, constitutes the culmination of Velvet Millar’s residency at Open Byte Printmaking Studio at Edith Cowan University. This residency was facilitated by ECU’s Visual Arts Program and the Faculty of Education and Arts.

Velvet Millar is committed to exploring and developing her creative practice further through postgraduate study, particularly involving photography, and is open to suggestions, comments, queries and proposals.
