40 flowers Project

Creative Brief

Through this project I intend to explore the commodification of the body, in specific genitalia, and look at how a woman's identity is lost, discarded or transformed when the female body is objectified.

In publications like pornography, a woman has to be stripped of all other identity such as "mother", "sister" or "daughter" in order to be objectified and subjectified by the male viewer.

I believe that through the mass media's use of this technique in advertising, the modern woman's identity is now linked to the exposure of her genitalia both locally and globally. The more people you show, the more society labels you as a 'whore' and a sex object.

Through the creation of these flowers I endeavor to persuade the viewer to look at these 'porn stars' not only as more than objects, but to use genitalia as a form of identification rather than a tool to erase it.

I would like to now create more flowers from 'real women' illustrating that we are all in the same struggle for equality and to empower women through exposure, showing each woman's uniqueness and beauty, just as each woman's experience of the world is unique.
